What is the ultimate dream of people in regard of living places ?
Maybe you could find some hints by looking what is going on in the persian Gulf countries
Quatar for instance: a 2,5 Billion dollars project called the Pearl is planning the building of an artificial island 20 km north of Doha
Pearl will host 40 000 inhabitants by 2009.
Featuring 3 marinas, luxury apparments, penthouses , restaurants, retail shops, full range of commodities, ...it aims to be a paradise for its occupants.
Nearby the main Island, 9 smaller fully private ones are for sale.
To know more about this project from United Development click here
Projects currently in final phase in Dubai give an other relevant example of what could be the city of the future:
a mix of Modernity and Natural Environement outlook
15 years back: Who would have bet that someone oustide EAU rich citizen would spend for acquiring a lodging in Dubai close to its Petrol factories, deserts, hot climate, and multiple prohibitions
but....living on a sunny Island on a top class building seems to be of more attractive even in Dubai
Dubai has made it with this giant project creating artificial islands on its coast.
The Resort called The world is composed of 300 Islands displaying the WorldMap .Each island is for sale worth $8 to $45 millions. Available next year.
The Palm Islands, are the largest artifical islands in the world.
Palm Jumeirha , Palm Jebel Ali and Palm deira are built in the shape of a date palm tree. For information and videos on these projects from Nakheel go here
In 2008, Dubai will also have the highest tower in the World. With 700 meters high Burj Dubai will count not less that 160 levels of offices, appartements, shops....
More over , if you want to go skying it is also availaible , just here with in the city at the Dubai Snow park that opened in 2005 . 400 meters of slopes that would make you feel like in French Alps. (it is by the way managed by a french guy). 4000 Visitors enjoy it every day.

Japan the big Jump from Traditional to Virtual World
Very far from the Japan traditions ( see my former note here ) I would like to talk an other aspect of the Japaneese society.
In reaction to the very rigid rules and social pressure , a new type of young men, the Otaku, has appeared at the opposite of the typical japaneese "salarymen".
The Otaku are obsessed with Mangas, Love Dolls, figurines ,Electronics and Animes.
Originally decribed as social misfits , Okatus are now firmly rooted in Japaneese culture. Several movies like " Densha Okoto (the train Man) or TV programs display their life and made them popular.
The Otakus refuse to become adults, they reject the hard reality of Japaneese Life and escape into the virtual world .
Most of this young generation , also decribed as parasite singles (hikikomori) , live by their parents up to 35 . They use to stay locked into their rooms for years.
They are now running the streets searching to satisfy their fantasy addiction.
They are 15 millions individuals.Because of fear of being rejected or disliked, people turn to anime characters or idols that pose no personal conflict
In Tokyo , the famous Akihabara quarter, also called Akiba , is the temple of electronics and the Okatu s territory.
Otaku rarely have Girlfriends ,
but they are buying Dolls in Spare parts in dedicated shops, dress them and live with them.
Those nerds spend 3 Billions Euros for dolls and electronics every year.
A huge business is blooming around those crazy shoppers.
Recently , numbers of bars and cafés for Otakus have opened with waitresses dressed as Lolita Maids on every blocks.
What next are they going for ?
The Android female of course.
Japan is leading the research or artificial intelligence , Actroid Der the female receptionist is showing up in exhibitions.
Prototype of intelligents robots are under developments by numerous Japaneese firms.

Interesting information in La Tribune (French Economic Newspaper- issue March 31st) about Traveling to the USA.
IN 2004 European Union and USA have signed an agreeement relative to the transfer of Information on Passengers flying to the USA. This agreement stipulates that Airlines have the obligation to transmit (to the American Authorities) a batch of information on every flying passenger.
The information list 34 different topics such as Adress, Phone Numbers, Credit Card Numbers, contacts, Car resa...
The European Court of Justice has just stated that this agreemet is illegal, as it has been signed by the European Commission without obtaining the Agreement from the individual European States who should keep their souvereignity in Police and Justice matters. Moreover the European Parlament had voted against this agreement considering it is an infringement to the principle of Individual Freedom.
Washington simply indicates that Airlines not providing required information will simply be banned from Landing on US Territorry. So far European Airlines refused to comment....
The European Court of Justice has given a temporary exemption until September 30 , so that a resolve could be find bewteen USA and Europe, and a new major crisis could be avoided.
Knowing the piracy of personnal datas in USA, with increasing cases of identity or credit cards abuse, lets hope that those one will be propoerly secured

The most expensive places in the world
When selecting the place to live ,work, make business , grow your family , and access to a real life quality you may have a look at how much it will deplete your revenues.
The Mercer consulting firm releases the reference ranking on the World's most expensive cities... The screened criteria are 200 product and services (food, lodging, transport, leisure, clothing ….).
Japan is once again on top of the list with Tokyo and Osaka as close follower. Neighbours Honk Kong and Beijing are challenging . In Tokyo , it will cost you more than 4000 Euros/month for a 2 bedroom appartment.
In Europe , 29 cities are among the 50 most expensive ones. London and Moscow (respectively 3rd and 4th) , Paris is 12th after being 17th in 2004... East Europe is getting more cities in the list since joining the European Union. .New York ranks 14th close to the Irish Dublin.
so check your wallet and make up your mind...
